Cosmic Walk Trail
Because of the insights of science, humanity now has the amazing privilege to know ourselves as part of the Story of the Universe. Theologian Thomas Berry and others remind us that this evolutionary journey is not just a material story, but a spiritual one, as well.
To celebrate this story and invite our community members into a deeper, whole-body, contemplative experience of it, we are creating a “Cosmic Walk” trail in the wooded nature preserve of our 27-acre campus. This trail, inspired by Sr. Miriam MacGillis of Genesis Farm in Caldwell, New Jersey, will feature twenty stations that narrate the significant moments of the 13.8 billion-year history of the universe, from the Big Bang, through the emergence of life on Earth, to the modern period in which we human beings have finally become conscious of our part in this vast evolutionary drama. In addition to providing inspiration for our Earth & Spirit Center community members, this trail will also serve as an important educational tool for the school field trips we host.
We are planning to engage a local artist, Tara “Remi” Remington, to create these twenty stations, with original artwork for each. Please consider making a tax-deductible gift to support one of the stations. Your own name as a donor, or the name of someone you would like to honor or memorialize, will be displayed as part of the trail.
Suggested giving levels:
$25 Star Level
$50 Moon Level
$100 Planet Level
$250 Solar System Level
$500 Galaxy Level (funds all of a single station with a plaque)
