Each of us has an inner radiance. Jesus referred to it as “the kingdom within.” St. John described it as “abundant life.” St. Paul spoke of it as “the mind of Christ.” Meister Eckhart explained it as a “peaceful heart.” Teresa of Avila depicted it as an “interior castle made of a single diamond…in which there are many rooms.”

 

Though our inner essence is “shining like the sun,” ignorance and mental clutter often obstruct its radiance. These knots in the mind breed personal misery and often generate the suffering we inflict upon others.  

 

Meditation is a spiritual practice, thousands of years old, which has been shown to be effective in quieting the mind and cultivating the capacity for concentration, presence and awareness. Helping to purify the mind of hindrances which block our inner radiance, meditation can open an individual to their deepest nature. The insights that arise from these contemplative states can initiate a personal transformation that alters our way of being in the world and helps us realize that we “are all walking around shining like the sun.” 

 

The Earth & Spirit Center offers meditation classes designed to initiate participants into a deep, loving relationship with the God. Through step-by-step guidance, participants become familiar with the inner world of the mind and emotions as they move toward the innermost experience of Spirit.
